FAQ

What if my dog is aggressive?

To better suit your needs, we would recommend you contact us for an evaluation to better assess your situation. We do offer private classes that can assist you with your dog’s behavior.

Do you guarantee results?

Because behavior can change from moment to moment and from situation to situation, we feel it would be unethical to offer a guarantee of results. However, many of our past clients have been very happy with our services. Please see our testimonial section to gain a better insight on their satisfaction.

What is covered in each class?

Our puppy classes focus a lot on proper socialization and the introduction of basic obedience commands. Our basic courses focus on building reliable obedience. Depending on the level of training you would like to achieve, our intermediate classes focus on building off leash reliability while our Real World classes focus on applying obedience out in real life situations. We also offer customized private classes to help you address behavioral issues that may not be covered by the different levels of our obedience classes. Please see our Classes section for more details.

Do you teach potty training?

Potty training is covered in all of our puppy classes. However, if you feel you need additional personalized help, please contact us to learn more about our private training program.

What type of training style do you use? How will you help me train my dog?

The trainers at Metropawlitan Dog Training are focused on providing you with the tools and methods that would work best for you and your pet. In order to accomplish this, we are trained in a variety of methods and styles of training to help you develop a customized program that you feel comfortable working with with your dog. We work to teach both you and your dog to work as a team and achieve your goals.

How long will it take it see results?

The time it takes to achieve results are highly dependent on the commitment you and your dog make in completing the homework assignments, as well as the specific goals that have been agreed upon to be reached by both you and your trainer. Generally speaking, most obedience group classes take about six weeks to complete, while private classes will vary. Please see our Classes section or contact us for more information.

Can I leave my dog with you to do the training or do I need to be there?

At this time, Metropawlitan is focused on teaching both group and private classes, both of which your presence will be required. While we do not offer a board and train service, please contact us or Especially 4 Pets (please see our links page) for more information regarding our Daycare n’ Train program.

My dog has problems ignoring distractions. We’ve taken him to other classes before and he does fine in class, but is still distracted on his walks. How are your classes different?

Our classes, from basic to advanced level obedience, teaches you in step by step, detailed increments how to achieve reliability with your dog regardless of the distractions around. Our weekly homework, when followed properly, will also help you to teach your dog to ignore distractions during your own practice time. In addition, our advanced level classes take place in various locations around the city to give you the opportunity to practice obedience in real life, real time situations.

My dog tends to misbehave in the house. He chews up my things and barks non-stop. Will these classes help?stop. Will these classes help?

While our basic classes do include assistance in addressing common unwanted behaviors, we understand that your situation may be very unique and specific. Please contact us regarding your situation and we can help you find a possible solution either through group classes or private training to help you out.

Will training change my dog’s personality?

Solid, reliable training, where the dog has been taught in a clear and fair manner will not alter your dog’s personality. What most of our clients have found is that training enhances their dog’s personality in a positive way, and allows you to build a closer relationship with your dog.

Do I need to commit lots of time training my dog?

While you do need to make a commitment to completing the homework assignments provided in class, the actual time you need to commit should not exceed a few minutes per day. Past experience has taught us that really short training sessions done several times during the day or week create results that far exceed those who drill their dogs on obedience commands for hours at a time.

What are the cost of your classes?

Please see our Classes section of our website for all pricing and service details.
